We’re racing towards a future in which devices will be able to read our thoughts. You see signs of it everywhere, from brain-computer interfaces to algorithms that detect emotions from facial scans. And though the tech remains imperfect, it’s getting closer all the time: now a team of scientists say they’ve developed a model that can generate descriptions of what people’s brains are seeing by simply analyzing a scan of their brain activity. They’re calling the technique “mind captioning,” and it may represent an effective way for transcribing what someone’s thinking, with impressively comprehensive and accurate results. “This is hard…
Not a day passes without someone pushing forward some new dishwasher hack, whether it’s something new and wild or just an old idea being recycled again. As someone who spends a lot of time with dishwashers for reviews, the hacks I’ve seen vary from the obvious to the outright dangerous and stupid. Here are some that I’d avoid or at least tweak. Tilting the top basket to prevent water from pooling It’s a bit annoying that mugs often come out of the top shelf with a little water on them, which needs to be wiped off with a tea towel. In…
My laptop recently warned me that I had low storage even though I hadn’t installed anything new. I ignored it at first, thinking it was just another Windows glitch. A few days later, the system started slowing down, so I opened the Storage page in Settings to see what was taking up too much space and noticed one category that had grown unusually large. When I looked inside, the cause of my storage problem was obvious. It was my Downloads folder, holding years of digital leftovers. There were duplicate installers, documents I no longer needed, and random attachments from projects…
Xiaomi currently has some great deals on the Xiaomi 15T series and the base Xiaomi 15. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy Watch8 lineup are also seeing big price cuts. First up, the Xiaomi 15T series has received a price cut. The base 15T in the 12GB/512GB trim is priced at £399, while the 15T Pro with 1TB storage has been discounted to £599. Both phones pack a 6.83-inch AMOLED display. The 15T is powered by the Dimensity 8400 Ultra SoC, while the 15T Pro is equipped with the Dimensity 9400+. The phones have…
StarCloud’s Nvidia A100 chip launch, Google’s TPU plans for 2027, and Elon’s ambitious 100 GW target by 2030 via SpaceX’s Starship. Challenges include chip shortages, high launch costs (needing under $80M per 40 MW payload for viability), and timelines akin to delayed projects like robotaxis. Starlink’s evolution will be from V2/V3 and AI versions of V3 satellites and V4 scaling to 50-200 kW for 50-200 chips). NASA’s shift to Jared Isaacman (a SpaceX ally) as administrator to accelerate moon missions. This will transform the future space industrialization (moon/Mars fabs, mining), energy scales beyond Earth’s nuclear output, and economic booms for…
Back in October, the upcoming Poco Pad M1 got certified, and today it’s been spotted in the Geekbench AI database. This has revealed the fact that it’s powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM. The prototype which ran the benchmark booted Android 15, which means the finalized product may unfortunately do too, even though Android 16 has been out since June. Now, if you’re wondering what to expect from this tablet regarding the rest of its specs, a tipster on X reiterates the previously rumored fact that it will just be a rebranded Redmi…
Recession fears aren’t hurting the wish list and shopping app GoWish, which is seeing record numbers ahead of the 2025 holiday season. The app, which has north of 13.6 million registered users, had its best day yet this week, when on Monday it hit No. 2 on the U.S. App Store. While GoWish has seen similar adoption trends in previous years, this year has proven to be a breakout success. The app doubled the number of users from last year, and it has been breaking records with hundreds of thousands of new daily users in the month of November. In…

Researchers at New York University have developed a new architecture for diffusion models that improves the semantic representation of the images they generate. “Diffusion Transformer with Representation Autoencoders” (RAE) challenges some of the accepted norms of building diffusion models. The NYU researcher's model is more efficient and accurate than standard diffusion models, takes advantage of the latest research in representation learning and could pave the way for new applications that were previously too difficult or expensive. This breakthrough could unlock more reliable and powerful features for enterprise applications. "To edit images well, a model has to really understand what’s in them,"…
The Milky Way is a rich and complex environment. We see it as a luminous line stretching across the night sky, composed of innumerable stars. But that’s just the visible light. Observing the sky in other ways, such as through radio waves, provides a much more nuanced scene—full of charged particles and magnetic fields. For decades, astronomers have used radio telescopes to explore our galaxy. By studying the properties of the objects residing in the Milky Way, we can better understand its evolution and composition. Our study, published recently in Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, provides new insights into the structure…
