Netflix has quietly gone from being an affordable alternative to cable to one of the most expensive streaming subscriptions around, rising from about $8 in 2014 to $25 a month now for the Premium plan. Added to that, its crackdown on password sharing has made the platform feel even more restrictive, given that I can’t exactly save by splitting the cost of the plan with family and friends living elsewhere in the country. So, like a lot of other subscribers, I found myself wondering if Netflix is still worth it. I mean, there are so many cheaper alternatives to Netflix…

American streets are incredibly dangerous for pedestrians. A San Carlos, California-based startup called Obvio thinks it can change that by installing cameras at stop signs — a solution the founders also say won’t create a panopticon. That’s a bold claim at a time when other companies like Flock have been criticized for how its license plate-reading cameras have become a crucial tool in an overreaching surveillance state. Obvio founders Ali Rehan and Dhruv Maheshwari believe they can build a big enough business without indulging those worst impulses. They’ve designed the product with surveillance and data-sharing limitations to ensure they can…
Law firm Williams & Connolly said state-sponsored hackers breached some of its systems and gained access to attorney email accounts. The prominent Washington, DC-based law firm is known for representing political figures and government officials, including Barack Obama and the Clintons, as well as major companies such as Intel, Samsung, Google, Disney, and Bank of America. According to a statement issued by the company, an investigation conducted with the assistance of CrowdStrike showed that the hackers exploited an unspecified zero-day vulnerability to gain access to a “small number” of attorneys’ email accounts. The probe showed that the attack was likely…
For more than a century, physics has been built on two great theories. Einstein’s general relativity explains gravity as the bending of space and time. Quantum mechanics governs the world of particles and fields. Both work brilliantly in their own domains. But put them together and contradictions appear—especially when it comes to black holes, dark matter, dark energy, and the origins of the cosmos. My colleagues and I have been exploring a new way to bridge that divide. The idea is to treat information—not matter, not energy, not even spacetime itself—as the most fundamental ingredient of reality. We call this framework…

I can’t think of the last time an entry in any long-running first-person shooter series was as safe as Battlefield 6. It seems as though the lackluster reception to Battlefield 2042 has left developer Battlefield Studios terrified of taking any kind of creative risks, a move that’s shaping up to be a real double-edged sword.Review infoPlatform reviewed: PS5Available on: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and Series SRelease date: October…
Apple on Thursday shared how it’s making changes to comply with a Texas state law, SB 2420, which introduces age assurance requirements for app stores and app developers. Although Apple already rolled out its own age assurance technology and tools earlier this year in anticipation of a regulatory crackdown, the tech giant called out the Texas law over privacy concerns. In a developer announcement, Apple explains, “…we are concerned that SB2420 impacts the privacy of users by requiring the collection of sensitive, personally identifiable information to download any app, even if a user simply wants to check the weather or…
The Apple TV 4K is my favorite streaming box on the market, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect for everybody. There are many drawbacks to know about before making the purchase, and while some of them are small, it’s still something you should know. There are quite a few things I didn’t know about the Apple TV 4K before I bought it, and I don’t want other people to be in the same boat. Keep in mind that a lot of these issues may not apply to you, especially if you own more Apple products than just the Apple TV…
Echelon, an artificial intelligence startup that automates enterprise software implementations, emerged from stealth mode today with $4.75 million in seed funding led by Bain Capital Ventures, targeting a fundamental shift in how companies deploy and maintain critical business systems. The San Francisco-based company has developed AI agents specifically trained to handle end-to-end ServiceNow implementations — complex enterprise software deployments that traditionally require months of work by offshore consulting teams and cost companies millions of dollars annually."The biggest barrier to digital transformation isn't technology — it's the time it takes to implement it," said Rahul Kayala, Echelon's founder and CEO, who previously…
Legit Security has detailed a vulnerability in the GitHub Copilot Chat AI assistant that led to sensitive data leakage and full control over Copilot’s responses. Combining a Content Security Policy (CSP) bypass with remote prompt injection, Legit Security’s Omer Mayraz was able to leak AWS keys and zero-day bugs from private repositories, and influence the responses Copilot provided to other users. Copilot Chat is designed to provide code explanations and suggestions, and allows users to hide content from the rendered Markdown, using HTML comments. A hidden comment would still trigger the usual pull request notification to the repository owner, but…
