Every year, nubia releases its top-of-the-line flagship phone with an innovative design and special camera features. And each time, nubia brings the flagship to the global stage, bless it!

This year, we have the nubia Z80 Ultra, and while it may look similar on the outside, it’s a much, much better smartphone than any of its predecessors!

The Z70 Ultra had a 6,150mAh battery with 80W wired charging, the nubia Z80 Ultra ups the ante to a 7,200mAh Si/C unit with 90W wired and 80W wireless charging.

Being a nubia, it has the under-display camera for an uninterrupted display experience. Unless you’re actively using the camera, you’ll never be able to see the hardware under the pixels! Here we’ve gone with a macro lens and a bit of a hassle to make it more visible with the magic of photo editing.

The display itself is seemingly the same, which is no bad thing. You are looking at a 6.85-inch OLED panel with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz.

The nubia Z80 Ultra is similar to the RedMagic 11 Pro. While it lacks that phone’s liquid cooling, it has both a vapor chamber and a liquid metal on the chipset.

While the RedMagic is an all-out gaming-centric device with shoulder triggers and an afterthought of a camera system, the nubia Z80 Ultra’s cameras are the main focus.

The formula of a 35mm, 70mm, and 18mm lenses hasn’t changed. But the hardware has gotten better. The 70mm zoom has the same half-inch sensor size but a slightly brighter f/2.4 lens.

The 18mm ultrawide has gotten a big bump from a 1/2.88-inch to a 1/1.55-inch imager. The main camera ditches the variable aperture lens but makes up for it with a notable sensor increase – from a 1/1.56-inch to a custom 1/1.3-inch.

All of the changes should spell an improvement in all-around imaging prowess, which we’ll soon test thoroughly.

Before we get going with the review, a word on the unboxing experience. The nubia Z80 Ultra ships with a case and a USB cable, which by current standards is quite good.
