Samsung Browser will get multitasking, AI and more with One UI 9

Judging by Google Chrome’s massive usage figures (3.83 billion worldwide monthly active users and 68-69% share on mobile, 89% on Android), chances are you are using the browser in any form. The Samsung Browser (formerly known as the Samsung Internet Browser) is one of the more popular alternatives. It comes pre-installed on all Galaxy devices and can also be freely downloaded by anyone else from the Google Play Store. It is very powerful, with plenty of customization and some interesting extra features like extension support.

According to reports, Samsung Browser will be getting a multi-window, split-screen browsing experience soon. It will be arriving with One UI 9, but probably won’t be tied to Samsung’s skin in particular since the Chrome Android browser already has the same feature. It allows you to open a couple of windows at the same time and monitor two active websites instead of having to go back and forth through tabs. You can actually see Samsung’s multi-window feature in action in the following screenshot courtesy of Android Authority. Apparently, on larger screen devices like the Z Fold 7, you can even have three concurrently active Samsung Browser windows.

Then there is the Ask AI feature. This one might actually be tied more deeply to the underlying OS and require a Samsung phone, since Perplexity reportedly powers it and seems to behave more like a system-level bit than an in-browser one. How do we know? Well, we are speculating, of course, but based on a short video of Ask AI that our colleagues over at SammyGutu actually managed to get working. The concept is pretty straightforward: the AI reads what you are browsing and digests it to offer answers and suggestions. However, it’s not just a visual analysis of the words on screen. Instead, the AI is integrated and pulls data straight from the browser. That also includes browsing history and potentially even some personal information. We’re interested to learn how Samsung handles that hurdle, but the video does showcase a toggle for how long to keep activity data for.

Finally, a more mysterious “Enable Cross Device Resume” toggle was also discovered in a leaked upcoming version of Samsung Browser. So far, it doesn’t seem to do anything, but it sounds like it might instantly transfer over a browsing window or even a whole session between devices? At least that’s our take, but how would it differ from the existing “Continue on other device”?

The One UI 9 Beta program is expected to launch in May, first on the Galaxy S26 generation and then the S25 line. The new version of Samsung’s popular skin should be ready in time to ship with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 this summer.
