Weekly poll results: the Motorola Signature is promising, but price and availability are a concern

Results from last week’s poll show that the Motorola Signature has a lot of potential, but there are many ways Motorola could screw it up and it already has to some extent. Here’s what the people have to say.

First, thin is nice, but a bigger battery is better. The consensus was that a battery with 5,200mAh capacity is small in a phone with a 6.8” display. Maybe Apple, Samsung and Google would disagree, but concerns over battery life were a common refrain in the comments.

We heard a lot about market availability too – the phone will launch in Europe and India soon, but much of the world map is still covered in question marks. This includes the US too, where Motorola is one of the few brands available besides the trio mentioned above.

And then there’s the price – nearly a quarter of voters will wait for a price cut before considering buying the Signature. That’s fair – a few months after launch Moto Edge and Razr models go on a near-permanent discount and there’s no reason that the Signature should follow a different path. €1,000 for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (non-Elite) phone was a big ask, anyway.

Around 20% of voters are interested in getting the phone as soon as possible – some have already pre-ordered it. However, just as many are waiting for reviews. The phone looks great on paper, but some have had bad experiences with older Motorolas and are taking a cautious approach.

Motorola has scheduled an event for January 23 to launch the Signature in India. It didn’t reveal the price, but that did leak. Availability should come soon (if not immediately) after the event. As for availability in Europe, we’ll get back to you on that one.
