Chinese smartphone makers’ obsession with Apple and ’emulating’ the Cupertino company’s designs shows no sign of stopping. Today a new render leaked in China, purportedly showing us the Xiaomi 18, which is only due to be unveiled in September.

There’s still a very long time to go until then, which is why you should take this with a grain of salt, but anyway, here it is: the iPhone 16 Pro in all its glory. Sorry, we meant the Xiaomi 18. Take a look:

The comparison with Apple’s device from 2024 is pretty much inevitable. The design of the camera island is very close, even though Xiaomi’s is bigger. The curvature of the corners seems nigh-on identical, and if you remove the Xiaomi and Leica logos, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any normal person who doesn’t think this is an iPhone.

Anyway, according to previous rumors, the Xiaomi 18 will have a 6.4-inch OLED screen, a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC, not the 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which is also coming out this year and will be Qualcomm’s top of the line. That one will allegedly be reserved for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max due to its very steep pricing.
