Sony’s WF-1000XM6 earbuds are tipped to launch soon with a new ‘Sandpink’ colour option, alongside black and silver, marking the first time the WF-1000X series has debuted with more than two finishes.

Fresh leaks have reignited interest in Sony’s next-generation wireless earbuds after a quiet spell.

According to Roland Quandt, the WF-1000XM6 will arrive in Sandpink, expanding beyond the black and silver finishes that defined the WF-1000XM5 when it launched in July 2023. Sony later added Smoky Pink to the WF-1000XM5 range in September 2024, but this marks the first time the company has offered a broader colour palette at launch.

Pricing is expected to be £289 in the UK, which puts the WF-1000XM6 in direct competition with Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 (£249) and Bose’s QuietComfort Earbuds II (£279). That premium positioning suggests Sony is confident in its noise-cancelling technology, which has consistently been regarded as best-in-class.

For readers weighing options, our evergreen guide to the best wireless earbuds offers a useful comparison of rivals currently available.

Although design specifics remain under wraps, industry watchers expect Sony to refine comfort and durability, addressing long-standing complaints about fit and bulk. Battery life and call quality are also tipped for incremental improvements, areas where competitors have gained ground.

Replacement parts for the WF-1000XM6 have already surfaced online, further hinting at imminent availability.

The addition of Sandpink reflects a wider industry trend towards more expressive colourways in premium audio gear.

Samsung and Apple have both leaned into pastel and limited-edition hues to broaden appeal, and Sony’s decision to follow suit could attract buyers who value aesthetics as much as performance. Therefore, the WF-1000XM6 looks set to be one of the most anticipated audio launches of early 2026.

If Sony delivers on both performance and style, the XM6 could strengthen its hold on the premium earbuds market. For those curious about how Sony’s noise cancellation stacks up, our explainer on how noise cancellation works provides useful context ahead of the WF-1000XM6’s release.
