    TL;DR

    • Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A27 has leaked.
    • The report hints at a new 12MP selfie camera with 4K recording capabilities.
    • According to a recent Geekbench listing, the phone could come with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.

It’s just the beginning of the second quarter of the year, and Samsung has already wrapped up key non-flagship launches for the year. The Galaxy A07 and A17 came last year, and were recently joined by the Galaxy A37 and A57. And now, the only missing piece of the puzzle may be joining soon, as Samsung prepares to launch the Galaxy A27.

The specifications for the Galaxy A27 have recently been leaked by the Dutch technology site GalaxyClub. The leaks hint at possible improvements to the camera over last year’s Galaxy A26, including a 12MP selfie camera. Although the resolution of this sensor has been reduced from 13MP, GalaxyClub says the new sensor is actually an upgrade, as it captures more light, which, in turn, leads to better sharpness in low-light selfies.

It’s unclear whether this is the same 12MP f/2.2 selfie camera we get on the Galaxy A37 or a more economical alternative. SamMobile also speculates that the newer sensor could also allow 4K recording on the selfie camera, albeit capped at 30fps.

Meanwhile, the rear camera is likely to remain the same, featuring a 50MP primary and an 8MP ultrawide-angle camera. The Galaxy A27 will also feature a third rear camera, likely a filler macro, with a 2MP resolution.

The Galaxy A27 has also surfaced on the popular device benchmarking platform Geekbench, which could reveal its internal specifications. According to this listing, Galaxy A27 could differ from the Galaxy A37 and A57, both of which use Samsung’s own Exynos SoCs. Instead, the Galaxy A27 could be powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset — the same chip we saw on the Galaxy A36 last year. This could mark a slight performance upgrade over the Galaxy A26, thanks to a slightly improved 4nm node and faster CPU frequencies.

Along with the chipset, the Galaxy A27  was spotted with 6GB of RAM, though it might not be the only variant, especially as last year’s model also offered 4GB and 8GB options. While we would have expected Samsung to bump the minimum RAM to 6GB this year, the ongoing RAM shortage does not seem to support this assumption.

While looking at this, it’s also important to note that Geekbench listings are easy to spoof and may not always be accurate. While we hope that’s not the case, there’s no guaranteeing it.

Finally, there’s no word on the Galaxy A27’s launch or other specifications. One upgrade I’d personally like to see is for Samsung to ditch the waterfall display and opt for a hole-punch camera instead, so it could make the phone look more premium. Whether Samsung chooses to listen to that advice or not is for time to tell.

As for pricing, the Galaxy A27 could follow the A37 and A57’s path in getting a price hike (again, thanks to the RAM and storage shortage) from the $300 mark last year.
