Google first revealed its plans to launch the new Googlebooks back in May, confirming they will run a new Android-based OS. We also got a sneak peek of some of the laptops earlier this month from the first vendor partners like Lenovo and Asus. And today, Google sent out invitations to media for an official launch event in New York on September 15.

It shapes up to be a big announcement because it won’t be just about the hardware. Google will announce what rumors called Aluminum OS, but we don’t have an official name for it yet. We only know that it will bring the OS closer to Android, as it will use the Android technology stack. In a way, it will be a mixture of Chrome OS and Android OS with the latter’s native codebase.

Google is promising premium hardware and different shapes and sizes, but all of them will share a distinctive Glowbar, which the visual leaks confirm. The first hardware partners are Asus, HP, Lenovo and Dell.

The event in New York will gather media from across the globe and will give journalists enough time to get familiar with the first Googlebooks and even run some benchmarks and tests.
