Best Buy has taken $170 off Sony’s WH-1000XM5, bringing one of the best noise-cancelling headphones down to $228 from $398.

Beyond the saving of more than 40%, Best Buy is adding up to three months of Apple Music for new or returning subscribers and three months of YouTube Premium for new subscribers, so there is plenty to listen to from day one.

    Skip the XM6: Sony’s WH-1000XM5 is now just $228

At $228, this Sony WH-1000XM5 deal brings eight-microphone noise cancelling and up to 30 hours of battery life for $170 less than its RRP.

With the WH-1000XM6 now Sony’s newest model, $228 makes the XM5 the sensible way into Sony’s flagship noise cancelling, keeping the eight-microphone setup and 30-hour battery for well under the $398 it was listed at.

Eight microphones, four on each earcup, work with Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 and Integrated Processor V1 to block out high and mid-frequency sound, from aircraft engines to people’s voices on a busy train.

Auto NC Optimizer keeps that performance consistent by adjusting to how the headphones sit on your head and to external factors such as atmospheric pressure. Whether you are climbing to cruising altitude or stepping off the plane, the cancelling adjusts itself automatically.

Music sits on a clean, quiet backdrop as a result, with a 30mm carbon fibre composite driver sharpening high frequencies and DSEE Extreme using Edge-AI to restore detail lost in compressed music files in real time.

Battery life keeps up with long listening sessions, stretching to 30 hours, and a three-minute top-up through a USB-PD compatible adapter adds three hours of playback when you are about to head out the door.

Calls get the same treatment, with four beamforming microphones and an AI noise-reduction algorithm trained on over 500 million voice samples isolating your voice, while multipoint pairing keeps your laptop and phone connected and switches to whichever one rings.

Long days of calls stay comfortable too, as soft fit leather eases pressure on your ears and Speak-to-Chat pauses music when you talk, so if you are weighing up the picks in our best noise-cancelling headphones 2026 guide, the XM5 belongs on your shortlist.

At $228, the Sony WH-1000XM5 brings eight-microphone noise cancelling, 30-hour battery life and up to three months of free streaming for $170 less than its $398 price, making this Best Buy deal the moment to buy.
