Both are sleek, polished flagships that favour refinement over radical change, keeping the familiar design language introduced with the Pixel 9 series. Still, with beefed-up AI features, longer battery life and a suite of thoughtful upgrades, there’s plenty here that feels genuinely new.

Price and Availability
Both handsets are now available to buy following release on 28 August.
The Pixel 10 Pro is the cheaper of the two, with a starting RRP of £999/$999 for the 128GB handset.

Design
In terms of design and in-hand feel, the Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL hew closely to the Pixel 9 playbook.
You still get the signature camera visor spanning the entirety of the rear, along with a matte finish with flat sides and gently rounded corners that reads premium in both look and feel. Durability remains identical too, with Gorilla Glass Armor up front and full IP68 dust and water resistance giving you peace of mind at the beach.
Pixel 10 Pro XL
Where the two diverge is in size and usability. The Pro is the easy carry with a 6.3-inch display and a sub-200g weight, allowing it to slip into pockets more cleanly, and is genuinely comfortable to use one-handed.
The XL model scales up to a 6.8-inch panel and lands at around 230g, edging into the territory of some book-style foldables on the scale. Even then, Samsung’s latest book-style foldable measures in at 217g, so there really isn’t an excuse for these heavy bar phones in 2025.
It’s still pleasant to hold and operate, but it’s unmistakably a two-hand device compared to the more nimble Pro model.

Screen
Both phones sport Google’s fantastic Super Actua AMOLED panels with an LTPO-enabled 120Hz refresh rate, pixel-packed resolutions and a boosted peak brightness of 3000nits that keeps them both more than usable outdoors, even on bright days. They’re genuinely fantastic panels that consistently deliver bright, colourful and smooth images.
As with design, it’s the size of the screens that differs between the Pro and Pro XL. The Pro’s 6.3-inch screen is a joy to use, especially if you prefer one-handed use, but it’s clear in use that the Pro XL’s 6.8-inch alternative is better for scrolling through apps and playing games.
With a bigger screen, photos on Instagram are larger, you see more detail in games like Call of Duty and everything just feels that little bit more immersive – you’ve just got to weigh up if the benefits compared to the overall size of the phone.

Cameras
Camera tech is traditionally where Google has led the smartphone charge, but things feel a little bit different this year.
For one, the camera hardware on the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL remain completely unchanged compared to last year’s 9 Pro and Pro XL, sporting a familiar combination of 50MP main, 48MP ultrawide and matching 48MP 5x zoom lenses.
Instead, Google has downgraded the camera hardware of the regular Pixel 10 to make the Pro models seem more advanced – but that’s a story for another comparison.
Unsurprisingly for flagship Pixels, both smartphones deliver strong all-round performance, as Pixels always have, with natural colours, plenty of detail and excellent handling of low-light environments.
That said, they don’t feel like they’re head and shoulders above the smartphone competition as they once did. In some situations, like dynamic range in complex lighting or catching moving subjects, the likes of Samsung and Apple are now competing directly.
It’s also clear to see that the new digital zoom tech relies on the same GenAI tech used by rivals, and the results are more hit-and-miss as a result – especially with elements like text.
Don’t misunderstand us; both Pixels still deliver a consistent, dependable shooting experience, but they no longer feel like the go-to recommendation for photographers that they once did.

Performance
Both the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL feature the same combination of Google’s in-house Tensor G5 processor, along with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, depending on the variant you choose.
In day-to-day use, the phones fly; general use is smooth, aided by the 120Hz refresh rate, with apps opening in a flash and multitasking never slowing things down. Even on-device AI tasks – translation, voice recognition, and image editing – run faster than they did before.
That said, Google’s Tensor chipsets have never been about pure graphical power, instead prioritising the handling of AI tasks, and that’s borne out in benchmark tests. In fact, compared to flagship chips like the Snapdragon 8 Elite found in devices like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, both models trail behind considerably.
That said, you’re unlikely to notice a difference in daily use – with the one possible exception of high-end gaming. Neither Pixel can truly handle the demands of modern AAA mobile games, at least not without getting warm in the process.

Software
Android 16 – featuring Google’s new Material 3 Expressive UI – comes pre-loaded on both the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, offering a fun, playful, and bouncy software experience. Animations are smooth and natural, while more elements of the OS adapt to the colours of your wallpapers for a more synchronised experience.
There’s also a suite of new and updated AI tools because, let’s be honest, that’s Google’s main schtick these days. Magic Cue is the standout new feature in this year’s collection, proactively learning about your habits and schedules and providing shortcuts and information when needed. It can even display handy information about recent purchases when calling a specific business.
Photo and video tools have also seen a boost, with improved performance from Google’s Magic Editor, although results still lag behind Samsung’s competing Galaxy AI image removal technology. Video Boost AI is also new, and aims to steady your footage and boost detail without having to upload the video to the cloud.
Most importantly, both phones offer the same set of tools and features, and both will receive seven years of OS upgrades that’ll take them through to the release of Android 23 in 2032.

Battery Life
There’s a clear difference between the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL when it comes to both battery life and charging. With a smaller chassis, it should come as no surprise that the Pixel 10 Pro features a smaller 4600mAh cell compared to the larger-screen Pixel 10 Pro XL and its 5200mAh counterpart.
Even with the larger screen to power, the XL model delivers the better battery life of the two, often able to last into a second day of use before needing a top-up. The Pro, on the other hand, is a solidly one-day phone, and something you’ll likely be charging every night.
Speaking of, while both offer support for Qi 2.2 charging and Google’s MagSafe equivalent dubbed Pixelsnap, the Pixel 10 Pro offers 30W wired charging while the XL model kicks it up to 45W.
Simply put, if battery stamina is a priority, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is the better option – and by some distance.

Final Thoughts
Google hasn’t exactly rethought the formula with this year’s Pro-level Pixels.
The Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL share the same design language, refined software and capable internals. The cameras remain excellent, though without standout changes, they don’t pull quite as far ahead of rivals as before, and performance is smooth, but still not class-leading.
For most buyers, the Pixel 10 Pro is the safer pick. It’s a bit cheaper, and its more compact footprint makes it easier to live with while still delivering the full flagship Pixel experience.
That said, if you prize a bigger display and longer battery life, the Pixel 10 Pro XL remains a compelling option – just know that you’re trading in-hand comfort for that extra screen real estate.
