Mac mini with M4 is down to $479 and it’s the best cheap Mac desktop you can buy right now

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get into the Mac ecosystem (or retire an aging Intel iMac or laptop), this is it. The latest Mac mini with M4, 16GB unified memory, and 256GB SSD is down to $479, which is wild value for a brand-new Apple desktop “built for Apple Intelligence.” You’re getting Apple’s newest chip, plenty of RAM for everyday multitasking, and the usual tiny footprint that fits almost anywhere.

    What you’re getting

This Mac mini uses Apple’s M4 chip, which brings faster CPU and GPU performance plus a more powerful Neural Engine for all the new Apple Intelligence features. Paired with 16GB of unified memory, it feels snappy for day-to-day stuff: dozens of browser tabs, productivity apps, light photo and video work, and running Mac apps side by side without the system choking.

Storage is a 256GB SSD, which is fine if you mostly live in the cloud or use external drives for big files. For a lot of people, this ends up as the “do everything” home base: plug it into a monitor or TV, add a keyboard and mouse, and you’ve got a silent, power-efficient machine that takes up less space than most routers.

You also get plenty of ports for a compact desktop: USB-C/Thunderbolt, USB-A, HDMI for an external display or TV, plus Ethernet and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in, so it plays nicely with AirPods, wireless keyboards, and everything else in the Apple ecosystem.

    Why it’s worth it

At $599, the M4 Mac mini is already one of Apple’s best bang-for-buck products. At $479, it’s in “stop overthinking it” territory if you’ve been considering a desktop Mac. You’re getting the latest chip, not last year’s model on clearance, with enough memory to actually feel smooth for years instead of months.

Compared to a similarly priced Windows mini PC, the value is in the performance per watt, the app ecosystem, and the long software support window you typically get with Macs. Compared to a MacBook, you’re giving up portability but saving a ton of money and getting desktop-class connectivity. If you already own a decent monitor, this is a much cheaper way to upgrade your computing experience than buying a whole new laptop.

    The bottom line

If you’ve been eyeing a Mac for work, study, or a clean home setup, this M4 Mac mini at $479 is one of the easiest recommendations around. It’s tiny, quiet, fast enough for almost anything mainstream, and now $120 cheaper than usual. Grab it, plug it into the screen you already own, and you’ve got a modern Apple desktop that should last you for years.
