Redmi Turbo 5 Max teased, should arrive later this month

The echoes of the New Year’s Eve 2024 fireworks had barely faded when Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Turbo 4. Then in late April, the company followed up with the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. This year we expect no less than three Turbo models on the way and the new addition may come first – Xiaomi posted a teaser for the Turbo 5 Max.

The Max will be the fastest phone with the best battery in the CNY 2,500 price segment, says Xiaomi. This converts to $360/€305/₹32,500, though as always, keep in mind that global prices tend to be higher than a simple currency conversion would suggest.

Unfortunately, the price range is the only concrete number that Xiaomi offered in its official teaser. Unofficially, @SmartPikachu reports that the new Turbo series will have metal frames with rounded corners, large displays and will run on MediaTek Dimensity 8 and 9-series chips.

Previously, we heard that the Redmi Turbo 5 will feature a Dimensity 8500, while the Turbo 5 Pro will use a Dimensity 9500e (supposedly a lower bin version of the 9500, though see below). Pro will have 100W charging, according to data from the 3C. It is said to have a 1.5K LTPS OLED display and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

The Pro is interesting, by the way, because last year the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro launched internationally as the Poco F7. Will the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro become the F8? Maybe. And what of the Max?

@DigitalChatStation reports that the new series will debut this month. The Redmi Turbo 5 Max will allegedly have a “Dimensity 9500s” chipset, which will be a variant of the 9400+. There may have been some mix-up with the naming – last year, the Dimensity 9400e was a rebadged 9300+, so the 9500e should be based on the 9400+. Not that chipset names follow any logic.

The Poco F8 Pro and F8 Ultra are already official with Snapdragon 8 Elite chips (one original, one Gen 5), so the Redmi Turbo 5 Max will have different hardware than them. The Pro model might still serve as the basis of the vanilla F8, though.
