Back in May, Apple was rumored to be testing a 200MP camera for an upcoming iPhone, but unfortunately no other details were shared at that point. 200MP cameras are becoming very prevalent in the Android world, so it makes sense that Apple would want to experiment with the tech and see if it fits its requirements.

Today a Morgan Stanley investor note claims Apple has made up its mind and will use a 200MP camera in the iPhone 21 coming out in 2028. With regard to the naming we’re using here, Apple is widely expected to go up to iPhone 20 in 2027 to mark the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone. Thus, the 2028 generation would be the iPhone 21.

Of course we’re expecting the iPhone 21 Pro Max (and perhaps the Pro too) to be the model in which the 200MP camera will make its debut. The camera will be supplied by Samsung, but it’s unclear which exact sensor Apple will be using (since we’re still so far off, the sensor in question may not even be announced yet). That sensor may actually be made in the US by Samsung.
