Vulnerability exploitation was the most common access vector for data breaches in 2025, the latest installment of Verizon’s annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) shows. The number of analyzed security incidents has increased to 31,000. Of these, more than 22,000 were confirmed breaches, nearly double compared to last year’s 12,195 confirmed breaches. Approximately 31% of the breaches were the result of unpatched vulnerabilities being exploited. Credential abuse, which was the top entry point in last year’s DBIR, accounted for 13% of the breaches. According to Verizon’s researchers, threat actors are leveraging AI to accelerate vulnerability exploitation, and the window for…
Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech A lot goes into getting that warm pizza to your doorstep. Dough is kneaded, toppings are sprinkled, ovens are fired up, and cars hit the road. Did we mention there’s an AI pulling all the strings? That’s the case at Pizza Hut, at least, and not everyone’s happy about it. One of the pie-slinging chain’s largest franchisees in the country is suing the parent company over its mandatory deployment of an AI-powered kitchen management and delivery system that’s been so disastrous that it’s…
There is a particular kind of frustration that comes with owning a speaker that sounds genuinely brilliant indoors but cannot follow you outside without the quality falling off a cliff the moment you unplug it. Most portable speakers solve the portability problem by quietly compromising on the thing that made you want a good speaker in the first place, leaving you with something that is fine for a garden or a weekend away but never quite sounds like it means it. Amazon has knocked $100 off the Sonos Move 2, a rare pre-Prime Day drop The Sonos Move 2 solves…
I never buy into a single device or software ecosystem. It’s partly an occupational hazard, because I need to stay familiar with every brand and operating system. It’s also because I want to try the bleeding edge of tech, regardless of the logo on the back of a product. That means I’m using iOS and Android daily, as well as macOS and Windows. It’s usually a headache, but there’s one area where I can mix-and-match gadgets without worrying about interoperability problems — my smart home. A decade ago, it wasn’t that simple. I had certain smart home gadgets in the…
If you were wishing you could have more AI features in your YouTube app, Google has announced yet another artificial intelligence feature to the platform as of today. Called Ask YouTube this new feature gives users the opportunity to find specific content on the platform by searching for it using question-based prompts that use natural language. So, for instance, using this new feature you can use Ask YouTube to find something general like how to clear the cache on a Roku, or something specific like what kinds of reviews the movie Elysium received in 2013. Following your query, the app…
For a quarter century, the Google search box has been one of the most recognizable interfaces in computing: a thin white rectangle, a blinking cursor, a few typed words, and a list of blue links. On Tuesday, Google will formally retire that paradigm. At its annual I/O developer conference, Google announced a sweeping redesign of the search box itself — the literal text field where billions of queries begin every day — transforming it from a simple keyword input into a dynamic, AI-driven conversation starter that can accept text, images, PDFs, videos, and even open Chrome tabs as inputs. The company…
Drupal is warning users that it’s preparing a patch for a ‘highly critical’ vulnerability that may be exploited by threat actors shortly after its disclosure. In a notice posted this week, the developers of the open source content management system (CMS) that powers hundreds of thousands of websites said patches will be released for all supported versions on May 20, between 17:00 and 21:00 UTC. “Reserve time on May 20 during the release window to determine whether your sites are affected and in need of an immediate update. On Survivor 48, Kyle Fraser’s alliance with castmate Kamilla Karthigesu helped drive him to victory. Now, the pair is teaming up in a new space, hoping for a similar outcome: they’re starting a business together. On Tuesday, the new co-founders are introducing Paprclip, a goal-focused “social accountability” app that they hope will become a more meaningful form of social media. Inspired by their experiences in the game, post-game, and by positive psychology principles, Paprclip’s idea is to bring people together to tackle their personal goals — whether that’s a health and wellness goal or something else entirely. The app is…
