Model providers want to prove the security and robustness of their models, releasing system cards and conducting red-team exercises with each new release. But it can be difficult for enterprises to parse through the results, which vary widely and can be misleading. Anthropic's 153-page system card for Claude Opus 4.5 versus OpenAI's 60-page GPT-5 system card reveals a fundamental split in how these labs approach security validation. Anthropic discloses in their system card how they rely on multi-attempt attack success rates from 200-attempt reinforcement learning (RL) campaigns. OpenAI also reports attempted jailbreak resistance. Both metrics are valid. Neither tells the…
OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman—perhaps the most prominent face of the artificial intelligence boom that accelerated with the launch of ChatGPT in 2022—loves scaling laws. These widely admired rules of thumb linking the size of an AI model with its capabilities inform much of the headlong rush among the AI industry to buy up powerful computer chips, build unimaginably large data centers, and re-open shuttered nuclear plants. As Altman argued in a blog post earlier this year, the thinking is that the “intelligence” of an AI model “roughly equals the log of the resources used to train and run it”—meaning you can…
Sendy Audio has revealed its latest pair of planar magnetic headphones, the Egret, blending a newly engineered nano-scale diaphragm with the company’s trademark handcrafted wood design. As shared by Sivga, the centrepiece of the Egret is a custom 98 × 84mm planar magnetic driver, the largest and most ambitious the company has built to date. It uses a composite diaphragm measuring under 800 nanometres, allowing for faster response times and tighter control over movement. Sendy’s Electron Beam Evaporation Deposition process is used to apply ultra-fine aluminium circuitry directly onto the diaphragm at the atomic level, a manufacturing approach that aims…
With affordable prices and increased compatibility, there’s never been a better time to invest in a smart home ecosystem. While many lament subscription-based smart home products, there are plenty of viable alternatives that cut out recurring charges altogether. It’s easy to find offline, subscription-free home security cameras that put the user in control of how they’re used. In fact, I’ve been using one such camera for the past two years—the TP-Link Tapo C125. On paper, the Tapo C125 is an excellent security camera. It retails for under $50, supports local recording with a microSD card slot, and integrates with the…
Andrew Grush / Android AuthorityTL;DR Starlink filed new trademarks, including “Starlink Mobile” and “Powered by Starlink”, covering cellular communication services and delivery of video and data to mobile devices. The filings follow Starlink’s growing telecom activity, including its T-Mobile satellite partnership and recent acquisition of terrestrial spectrum from EchoStar. None of this is too surprising, as Musk had previously stated that Starlink may eventually offer full cellular service, though he suggested it was likely a ways off at the time. Starlink has been transforming the way people connect to the internet for over six years now, and during that time…
Three years ago, Chat GPT was born. It amazed the world and ignited unprecedented investment and excitement in AI. Today, ChatGPT is still a toddler, but public sentiment around the AI boom has turned sharply negative. The shift began when OpenAI released GPT-5 this summer to mixed reviews, mostly from casual users who, unsurprisingly, judged the system by its surface flaws rather than its underlying capabilities.Since then, pundits and influencers have declared that AI progress is slowing, that scaling has “hit the wall,” and that the entire field is just another tech bubble inflated by blusterous hype. In fact, many…
Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images As the nation reels over Pete Hegseth allegedly giving direct orders to carry out heinous war crimes, we are now being reminded of the defense secretary’s other big scandal from earlier in the year: when he was caught texting secret war plans about launching airstrikes in Yemen in an unsecured group chat while totally oblivious to the fact that a journalist was in there reading everything. That context is important, though the latest embarrassing detail to emerge from the “Signalgate” scandal comes not from Hegseth but his vice president and charisma black hole JD Vance.…
Saving memories is usually a hassle. URLs go in the bookmarks section or are copied and pasted in a dedicated app. Then there are camera clicks of posters, or the dozens of screenshots we take, which lie around like an uncluttered mess in the Photos app. Imagine a system where you press the iPhone’s Action Button. It takes a screenshot, writes a brief summary of the on-screen content, adds hashtags for quick search, and automatically saves all the information in an app of your choice. Sounds terrific, right? Well, the iPhone won’t do that. Android devices, such as the OnePlus…
Spotify says yesterday’s launch of its annual year-in-review feature, Spotify Wrapped, was its biggest ever. The streaming service reports that Wrapped 2025 saw over 200 million engaged users within the first 24 hours, 19% more than last year’s AI-centered flop. Last year, it took Wrapped 62 hours to reach 200 million users, the company noted. Engaged users are counted as those who have viewed at least one of the stories within the Wrapped experience. In addition, Spotify said Wrapped was shared more than 500 million times this year, 41% more than last year. This includes native shares from within the…
Format wars have been going on since the beginning of the home theater industry. Most people are aware of the battle between VHS and Betamax, but there have been many, many similar rivalries over the years, all in the name of becoming the de facto product customers have to turn to, and other electronics firms have to license. There was even a brief time when you could buy an HD DVD player for your Xbox 360 — which, in retrospect, was a futile attempt to challenge Blu-ray when attempts at an industry-wide standard failed. One of the newest challengers is…
