In 2015, Apple introduced 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s, adding a revolutionary dimension of pressure sensitivity to the touchscreen we had all gotten used to. Features like Peek & Pop allowed for seamless content previews, while Quick Actions enabled instant shortcuts from app icons. It even transformed the keyboard into a precise trackpad with a firm press. Unlike today’s slower long-press (Haptic Touch), 3D Touch felt instantaneous and mechanical. Despite its ingenuity and “pro” utility, Apple eventually removed the hardware to save space and cost. While software workarounds exist, the tactile brilliance of true pressure sensitivity remains a missed…
Ryan Haines / Android AuthorityTL;DR Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus is set to enter mass production later this month, as per industry sources. With the launch set for next month, it is almost confirmed that Samsung will use the same specs as last year. While it was previously exploring a display upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Plus, the plans were dropped due to a shortage of time. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, however, will come with a new display with privacy features. Samsung has seemingly chosen late February for the official unveiling of the Galaxy S26 series. However, if you’ve been tracking…
Startup Substrate is building next-generation semiconductor fabs using advanced X-ray lithography. This goes beyond extreme ultraviolet 13.5 nanometer wavelengths down to 0.01 nanometers. At the core of Substrate’s technology is a custom particle accelerator which propels electrons (produced by an unknown emitter) to near the speed of light using radio-frequency cavities. As these electrons pass through sporadic magnetic fields, they gain kinetic energy, accelerating to speeds very close to the speed of light (a relativistic speed), which allows them to produce special types of light when manipulated. These fast-moving electrons fly through a series of magnets that flip back and…
It’s turned into an unusual mission for SpaceX’s Crew-11. Instead of remaining at the International Space Station (ISS) for the full duration of their mission, the four crew members are coming home a month early due to a medical issue with one of the astronauts. Crew-11 departed the ISS on Wednesday afternoon and is due to splash down in the early hours of Thursday. Read on for full details on how to watch. Keen to maintain privacy, NASA has declined to reveal both the astronaut’s identity and the medical issue that’s at the center of the early return. NASA chief…
Batteries are boring. While an essential component in the vast majority of products, lengthening of a tablet, smartphone, or wearable typically isn’t the most exciting announcement when compared to a new design or features that change how you use the device in question. That could be one reason why external batteries remain such a constant: Companies continue to prioritize looks over battery life. New chargers and external battery packs are a regular presence at trade shows like the Consumer Electronics Show, but the most interesting models at this year’s show all had something in common. Besides charging, they had some…
NASA’s integrated SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft for the Artemis II mission is inching closer to launch – literally. The agency is targeting no earlier than 7 a.m. EST, Saturday, Jan. 17, to begin the multi-hour trek from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Pad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A pre rollout mission news conference, live feed of rollout, and a media gaggle will stream on NASA’s YouTube channel. Individual streams for each of these events will be available from that page. Learn how to stream NASA content through a variety of online platforms, including social…
This is the Moto G (2026) and came out in early November, and has been on sale since last month. It’s very similar to its predecessor, with only slight changes to the specs sheet. We’ll call them quality of life type upgrades – you get twice the base storage at 128GB and a slightly bigger 5,200mAh battery. Oh, and the selfie camera has doubled from a 16MP unit to a 32MP one with a brighter f/2.2 lens. The rest of the specs are nearly identical – a 6.7-inch IPS LCD with 1,000 nits of brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate.…
Data loss is one of those disasters that can torpedo a productive day, or an entire month, if things get really ugly. Whether it is ransomware, a dying hard drive, or a clumsy deletion, losing important files can stall your entire workflow. I recently came across a backup tool that didn’t compromise on security or simplicity: Restic—a fast, efficient, and secure command-line backup tool. If you need a beginner’s guide to the command prompt because the idea of using a CLI makes you nervous, I completely understand. A blinking cursor can be intimidating. But Restic is human-readable. After switching, I…
Micron has defended its decision to shutter the Crucial brand of consumer RAMA marketing exec said, “Our viewpoint is that we are trying to help consumers around the world. We’re just doing it through different channels.”This refers to the majority of Micron’s consumer business as being supplying RAM for OEM PCs, and the exec has a point to an extent – but so do those who are complainingThe RAM crisis continues to rage, and some consumers are still raging too, remaining unhappy with Micron ditching its Crucial brand last month – but the memory maker has just been defending this…
Antibodies touch nearly every corner of healthcare. These carefully crafted proteins can target cancer cells, control autoimmune diseases, fight infections, and destroy the toxic proteins that drive neurological disorders. They’re also notoriously difficult to make.Over 160 antibody therapies have been approved globally. Their market value is expected to reach $445 billion in the next five years. But the traditional design process takes years of trial and error and is often constrained to structures similar to existing proteins. With AI, however, we can now generate completely new antibody designs—never before seen in nature—from scratch. Last year, labs and commercial companies raced to…
