Lenovo’s ThinkPad lineup is legendary, and on May 12, the company announced the latest updates, including a new X13 and new L-Series models. The company also announced the powerful ThinkStation P4 workstation.

Why people are still buying this 2018 laptop in 2025

It’s the dream combination for so many reasons.

    The new ThinkPad models

Lenovo is releasing three updated ThinkPad models: the ThinkPad X13 Gen 7, the ThinkPad L14 Gen 7, and the ThinkPad L16 Gen 3. All three offer AI-enabled performance and enhanced mobility. Each model supports Copilot+ PC experiences in Windows 11, enabling “more intuitive, AI-assisted workflows.”

The laptops have a strong focus on sustainability and repairability. Lenovo claims the devices have iFixit scores of up to 9 out of 10, and they include a 100% recycled cobalt battery. They’re also packed with customer-replaceable parts, including the battery, SSD, and WWAN module.

    ThinkPad X13

This is the flagship of the new devices. With a focus on portability, the X13 is an incredibly sleek laptop, weighing just 2.05 lbs. Lenovo says it’s “designed for professionals who require uncompromising mobility without sacrificing performance” and that it “maintains the full ThinkPad experience.” That experience is powered by a choice of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or AMD Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series processor.

    ThinkPad L-Series laptops

Lenovo is also releasing a pair of new L-Series laptops — the L14 Gen 7 and the L16 Gen 3. These are 14″ and 16″ models, respectively. They feature Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or AMD Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series processors, up to 64 GB DDR5 memory, and up to 2 TB of storage. These machines are primarily geared towards large enterprise deployments.

The ThinkStation P4 is an extremely powerful tower workstation designed for professional creators and engineers. It packs an AMD Ryzen PRO 9000 Series processor and NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell graphics, along with a liquid cooling system to ensure sustained performance, all in a 30L chassis. It is ISV-certified for pro software from companies like Autodesk, Adobe, and Siemens. Lenovo claims the ThinkStation P4 is the first workstation in the world to feature that specific AMD processor.

    The bottom line

    Really slick hardware

AI jargon aside, the new ThinkPad lineup looks great — especially the X13. Although it’s considered a business laptop, the ThinkPad X13 series is a great option for anyone looking for a rugged, reliable laptop with a great keyboard.

It’s also a popular Linux platform — the hardware is very compatible with Linux out of the box. In fact, you can even order them with Linux preinstalled (although switching to Linux yourself is also a piece of cake on these devices).

The ThinkStation also looks interesting, but it’s clearly meant for a very specific audience and workflow needs. The chip and especially the GPU are better suited for tasks like local LLM training, data science, and 3D simulation than gaming or even photo and video editing. The Blackwell GPU is also incredibly expensive (almost $9,000!), so when Lenovo releases its pricing, outside the budget of most home users.

    Availability

Speaking of pricing, the ThinkPad X13 will be available in May 2026, with a starting price around $1499. The L-Series laptops will also be available in May, starting at around $1439.

The ThinkStation P4 will be available in June in select worldwide markets, but won’t come to North America until August. There is no price at this time — Lenovo says it will be available closer to launch.
