SpaceX recently completed the largest IPO ever, raising more than $85 billion and debuting at a ~$1.77 trillion valuation. Shares have since pulled back (a common post-IPO pattern, especially in volatile markets), but the raise was enormous.
xAI is part of that story because of the earlier integration. FEb 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI and the combined entity valued around $1.25 trillion at the time. xAI got fund raising from public markets and that massive capital raise through the SpaceX structure. A standalone IPO would have taken another year or more.
SpaceX Rental Deal Helps Anthropic to IPO
OpenAI is hitting the brakes on its IPO despite earlier plans for late 2026. Reasons cited include:Post-SpaceX IPO market choppiness and share performance.
Broader investor skepticism around sky-high AI valuations.
Desire for more clarity/stability before going public.
Sam Altman reportedly pushing for a $1 trillion IPO valuation. OpenAI last private raise at about ~$730 billion.
Anthropic is reportedly still on track for its own public debut, which could create a interesting contrast in how the major AI labs are approaching the public markets.
XAI SpaceX Merger got cash. Rental to Anthropic monetizes for XAI. XAI AI revenue is higher than Anthropic. SpaceX-XAI are profitable.
This is the high level AI game. Raising cash and getting the energy to build AI data centers faster.
OpenAI is leaning toward holding off its IPO until next year, people involved in the company’s deliberations said, a delay that highlights the unclear paths of A.I. titans. https://t.co/T5REJ7PL54
