Duke “Rethinking Load Growth” reports that having a flexible energy demand during 3 peak hours unlocks 20% more overall power. Curtailing just ~0.5–1% of annual energy could unlock on the order of 76–100 GW of new load on today’s US grid.
This is how Tesla, SpaceX and XAI can use virtual power plants, batteries to get to over10 GW and then multiply it with the grid utilities to 100GWs. The 100 GWs with matching chips and AI data centers are worth over $50 trillion per year.
At the unit level just adding one 35MW unit is worth $1.8 billion (like the Relativity AI deal).
SPACEXAI mobile turbine fleet 27 units in December 2025 to 46 by May. 19 natural gas turbines the size of a semitruck added over 500MW of power which were rented out for $20 billion per year. XAI has Five Doosan turbines on order for about ~ 1.9GW this year and next year
SMT130 Units: Rated at 16 MW each @$50M per MW/Year, $800M/year
Titan 350 Units: These larger mobile turbines provide around 35 to 38 MW of power per unit. @$50M per MW/Year, $1900M/year
APR Energy 35 MW, $1750M/Year
V3 Starship AI1, 100T, 7MW, $350M/Year
V4 Starship AI1, 200T, 14MW, $700M/Year
150 MW TVA Substation $7.5B/year
