The weekend is the perfect time to relax and enjoy something new on Netflix. But what if you don’t have enough time to start watching a massive series with a million seasons, but too much time to fill with just one movie? In that case, you want a miniseries, the perfect compromise. Happily, Netflix is overflowing with great miniseries that will keep you entertained for exactly as long as you need them to.
His & Hers
It’s not nearly as cute as it sounds
His & Hers stars Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson as Jack Harper and Anna Andrews, an estranged married couple who are both working on the same murder case. Anna is a sidelined reporter who returns to work when she hears of a killing in Dahlonega, the small Georgia town where she grew up. She returns there, convinced to find the truth. Meanwhile, Jack is the detective assigned to the case, and is deeply suspicious of her motives. The two clash as they get to the bottom of what really happened, with the case and with their marriage.
At only six episodes, His & Hers gets right to the point. The pace is fast, the relationship between Anna and Jack is entertaining, and there are plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep viewers hooked. This show only came out in January 2026, so it’s still pretty new. It got lost in the never-ending rush of Netflix content and deserves another look.

Crime through time
Bodies is a 2023 crime thriller with a sci-fi twist. In 1890, a body is found in the Whitechapel area of London, which at that point would have been famous for murders, the Jack the Ripper killings having happened there not long before. The twist comes when we jump forward in time several decades and find that the exact same body is found in the same location in 1941…and again in 2023…and again in 2053. What in the world is going on?
We won’t spoil anything, but the show follows four detectives working across these four time periods who have to piece together what’s happening. The result is a tightly written series that strives to get the science behind time and time travel right. At eight episodes, it’s a bit longer than His & Hers, but is so gripping that you won’t mind.

Adolescence
Where the drama is unbearable and unbroken
At only four episodes, Adolescence isn’t the longest miniseries on Netflix, but it may well be the best. It’s about a 13-year-old boy named Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) who commits a horrible crime. The show isn’t a mystery — it’s pretty clear that Jamie did it — it’s more about understanding how a seemingly normal kid his age could do something so horrible, and exploring how his actions affect his family, friends, and community.
Adolescence is sensitively written, socially relevant, and technically masterful; each of the four episodes is filmed in one long unbroken take. Assuming you aren’t too engrossed in the story to think about these things, you might wonder how on Earth they pulled off some of these shots.

Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist
The title says it all
Evil Genius is one of many great true crime documentaries on Netflix, and one that didn’t get the attention it deserved when it came out in 2018. It’s about a bizarre case from 2003 where a pizza delivery driver named Brian Wells attempted to rob a bank. The strange part was that he had a homemade bomb around his neck while he did it; the bomb went off, killing him.
Over its four episodes, Evil Genius dives deep into the details of this case, complete with interviews with the alleged “evil genius” behind the whole thing, Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong. It’s a truly twisted case that deserves its own documentary, and this one delivers.

Elite Force
This one is brand new!
Netflix has a long history of producing great foreign language shows, and Elite Force could be a great addition to that lineup. The first season just came out on July 22. It follows the members of an elite French intervention unit called GIGN. These officers are deployed to deal with hostage situations, attempted terrorist attacks, and other serious threats.
The show mainly revolves around David (Tomer Sisley), the unit chief. He finds himself dealing with an enemy armed with a kiloton of stolen military-grade explosives who seems to have it out for GIGN specifically. As the show continues, a part of David’s past he thought was buried comes to light, meaning this case is personal as well as professional.
Elite Force (the French title is GIGN) runs for eight episodes. It’s tense, features a great central performance from Sisley, and has terrific action scenes full of eye-popping stunts.
