    Weekly poll results: smart glasses are a solution looking for a problem

    Tech giants are spending tons of R&D money on building new smart glasses that fill various categories. However, based on the results from last week’s poll, all of them are solutions looking for a problem.

    The outcome couldn’t be more clear – the vast majority of voters are not using smart glasses. To be fair, regional availability is preventing some people from trying them out. But even then it’s clear that most people haven’t found a compelling use-case for them.

    Less than 5% of voters report that they are actively using smart glasses. Some like them as a replacement for headphones, others lean into their head-mounted display capabilities.

    Tech companies that are building smart glasses have an uphill battle ahead of them – in the comments, many people report that they find glasses with cameras to be an invasion of privacy and even go as far as calling them “creepy”. That’s something that Google Glass struggled with years ago and it remains a major hurdle to adoption.

    So, it’s not only that these people won’t buy smart glasses, but they will also shun anyone who does – smart glasses have a serious reputation problem.
