AI productivity has been heavily dependent on prompt abilities and how people gave instructions to AI. Claude has introduced skill files (portable to other LLM- large language models): Automatically invoke predefined capabilities when a relevant task is mentioned Handle multi-step projects like job candidate research, spreadsheet automation, or report generation using stored logic Provide consistent results across chats, apps, and APIs without retraining These instructions are the foundation for general-purpose AI agents—models that can access specialized toolsets on demand, not just interpret text inputs. Technical Framework and Compatibility Technically, Skills resemble markdown-based Lego bricks. Each file includes descriptive metadata (name,…
JBL Grip review: this Bluetooth speaker is a can full of fun, and a seriously rugged audio companion
Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test. JBL Grip: two-minute reviewThe JBL Grip is a new entrant into the audio giant’s Bluetooth speaker lineup, sitting between the Clip and Flip lines. It has a seltzer-can-inspired look, attractive ambient lighting, and a highly durable exterior. Yes, it really has all the key design elements covered. But does the Grip sound any good? I tested it for two weeks to find out.I’ve got to say, the JBL Grip…
AI models are only as good as the data they're trained on. That data generally needs to be labeled, curated and organized before models can learn from it in an effective way.One of the big missing links in the AI ecosystem has been the availability of a large high-quality open-source multimodal dataset. That changes today with the debut of the EMM-1 dataset which is comprised of 1 billion data pairs and 100M data groups across 5 modalities: text, image, video, audio and 3d point clouds. Multimodal datasets combine different types of data that AI systems can process together. This mirrors…
I’m relatively content within Apple’s walled garden of simple interfaces. I do, however, have a nasty habit of overestimating my devices’ powers sometimes — especially when it comes to my M3 MacBook Pro. I upgraded to the M3 MacBook Pro in June 2024 — just five months before Apple announced its new M4. Was I a little sour about upgrading when the newest thing was right around the corner? Sure. But it’s just a processing chip. What revolutionary upgrades could the M4 have over the M3? The native ability to connect to more than one external monitor, apparently. The M3…
One of the coolest things about generative AI models — both large language models (LLMs) and diffusion-based image generators — is that they are "non-deterministic." That is, despite their reputation among some critics as being "fancy autocorrect," generative AI models actually generate their outputs by choosing from a distribution of the most probable next tokens (units of information) to fill out their response.Asking an LLM: "What is the capital of France?" will have it sample its probability distribution for France, capitals, cities, etc. to arrive at the answer "Paris." But that answer could come in the format of "The capital…
Quantum entanglement—once dismissed by Albert Einstein as “spooky action at a distance”—has long captured the public imagination and puzzled even seasoned scientists. But for today’s quantum practitioners, the reality is rather more mundane: Entanglement is a kind of connection between particles that is the quintessential feature of quantum computers.Though these devices are still in their infancy, entanglement is what will allow them to do things classical computers cannot, such as better simulating natural quantum systems like molecules, pharmaceuticals, or catalysts. In new research published recently in Science, my colleagues and I have demonstrated quantum entanglement between two atomic nuclei separated by about…
Whether you like to go running in the streets or favour a brisk walk instead, the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are the perfect companion. Bose products often have a tendency to feature a price point that’s out of many people’s budgets, and while there are certainly merits to be found, a premium price tag isn’t for everyone, but when there are deals to be found, it does soften the blow somewhat. Right now, you can get the Bose Ultra Open Bluetooth Earbuds – arguably some of their best ever true wireless earbuds – for the unbelievably low price of just…
Acting can be a chaotic career choice, especially when it comes to getting chosen for a particular role. The competition is fierce, and it can often be a toss-up over who gets what role. And even when an actor lands a role, it’s not always a guarantee that recasts won’t happen. It’s a volatile business, and anything can really happen, especially the stuff you least expect. Of course, we as viewers don’t really see this happen. We just hear about it on the news and then eventually watch the finished product, no matter who’s in it. But imagine some of…
We’re in the middle of an international AI gold rush. As national leaders wake up to the potentially vast implications of AI tools for their economies and societies, they’re racing to grab their share of its potential value – for much as globalization displaced manufacturing from the West to the East, AI promises to replace jobs in some parts of the world while creating new wealth in others. In this new gold rush, countries are choosing very different paths: some are letting their digital prospectors run wild, whilst others seek to control their activities in the interests of human rights –…
Tech companies may be vocal about their love of advanced nuclear power — the flashy trend that’s been sweeping the energy sector — but they continue to add renewable capacity. Meta recently signed a deal with Spanish renewable developer Zelestra for 595 megawatts of solar power in Texas, just two weeks after signing a separate solar deal with utility company Engie. It’s a significant purchase for the tech company, representing a nearly 5% bump to the 12-plus gigawatts of renewable capacity it currently has under contract. The announcement comes as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg maintains the company’s ambitious AI strategy…
