Civilization VII Apple Arcade is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so you can start a campaign on your phone and keep it going on a larger screen later. It’s the closest thing to true pocket Civ on Apple hardware, without ads, upsells, or a separate purchase for each device. The appeal is simple. Civ rewards short bursts and long nights, and this version finally lets you do both with the same save. But it also draws a clear line around what it can’t do yet. The portability comes with limits Your progress syncs across Apple devices, so a…
Before anyone gets up in arms, I’m aware that there’s a certain irony in wanting more features out of an e-reader. The point of one is to provide the conveniences of digital reading without major distractions, and without worrying so much about battery life. It’s hard to add a lot without turning a Kindle into an iPad, not only defeating the point, but raising its price. It’s hard to deny, though, that Kindles aren’t exactly the most exciting and innovative devices these days. There’s no immediate crisis in sales or anything — but I could see them falling out of…
A potent winter storm in late January 2026 left much of North Carolina dealing with significant snow accumulations. Though the state is no stranger to snow, such widespread coverage is unusual. This image, acquired on February 2 with the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) on NASA’s Terra satellite, reveals a nearly continuous blanket of white stretching from mountain cities in the west to beachfront towns in the east. According to the North Carolina State Climate Office, measurable snow fell in all 100 counties for the first time in more than a decade. Snowfall in North Carolina typically requires cold air funneled in from the north…
Honor is unveiling the Magic V6 foldable smartphone at MWC in Barcelona in a few weeks, and ahead of that, the device has seemingly now been certified for sale in China by 3C. This process reveals two model numbers: PNM-AN10 and PNM-AN20. The former is believed to be the regular model, while the latter will offer satellite connectivity. Most intriguingly, however, this certification also reveals that the Magic V6 will support 120W wired charging. That’s the fastest we’ve ever seen on a foldable smartphone, and should pair very well with the Magic V6’s battery capacity, which is 7,150 mAh. These…
There are a lot of big TV shows that depict what the world will be like after the end of civilization, and it’s usually pretty rough. The Walking Dead tortured its characters for 11 straight seasons and is still at it in spinoffs. In Fallout, characters live in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, which is about as cheery as it sounds. And HBO gave us its own vision of the grittiness at the end of the world with The Last of Us, which had diminishing returns in its second season. But HBO gave us an even better post-apocalyptic limited series a couple…

The joke is clearly supposed to be…
Here’s a party trick: Try opening a bottle of water using your thumb and pointer finger while holding it without spilling. It sounds simple, but the feat requires strength, dexterity, and coordination. Our hands have long inspired robotic mimics, but mechanical facsimiles still fall far short of their natural counterparts. To Aude Billard and colleagues at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, trying to faithfully recreate the hand may be the wrong strategy. Why limit robots to human anatomy?Billard’s team has now developed a prototype similar to Thing from The Addams Family.Mounted on a robotic arm, the hand detaches at the…

Ilana Panich-Linsman for The Washington Post via Getty Images For over a millennium, measles have ravaged humanity. Physicians as far back as 10th century Persia have been documenting the virus, which killed millions of children well into the 20th century. Finally, in 1963, biochemist John Enders developed the first measles vaccine, a development which virtually eradicated the virus from the US population by the year 2000. That was then. Now the virus is back, threatening to tear through a Texas immigration detention center with a vengeance — a grim collision of Trump-era vaccine skepticism and brutal immigration enforcement that seems…
