GameNative now lets you adjust CPU, GPU clock speeds on Galaxy devices

GameNative is arguably the best way to install and play PC games on your Android device, while also offering quick access to your digital gaming library. Heating is one notable challenge for these types of apps, though, but the team has just unveiled a solution.

GameNative v1.2.0 is out now on GitHub as a pre-release update, and it brings a host of CPU and GPU power controls. These controls work on Samsung Galaxy devices as well as AYN and Retroid handhelds. I can confirm seeing it on my Retroid Pocket G2.

You can choose one of four preset power profiles: Power Save, Balanced, Performance, and WALT. The Power Save option tops out at 998MHz on the test device. The other profiles all top out at the maximum frequency but have different minimum clock speeds.

If these profiles aren’t enough for you, you can make granular adjustments to the minimum and maximum CPU frequencies. Furthermore, you can choose the maximum GPU frequency along with minimum/maximum GPU power.

This is a major addition to GameNative, allowing you to get a fine-tuned balance of performance and battery life. It’s particularly handy if you’re worried about device heating, as you can cap the CPU/GPU clock speed so your device doesn’t run hot. These options also join additions like auto-tuning, fan control (holding a target temperature), and automatic FPS reduction for a lower but more stable experience.

Other GameNative v1.2.0 highlights include faster loading from external storage, a community configuration browser, a favorites tab, and improved frame generation functionality.
