Google will fix your faulty Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL display for free

On December 8, 2025, Google quietly rolled out an “Extended Repair Program” covering the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL. A limited number of devices in the series suffer from display issues. Additionally, the company has also launched an “Extended Warranty Program” for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The eligibility criteria for the repair program are a bit odd, though, as it requires a “vertical line on the display” that “runs from bottom to top.” Furthermore, “display flicker on the Pixel 9 Pro devices also qualifies.” Google also clarifies that cracked displays or cover glasses, along with damage such as liquid intrusion, may disqualify a device.

While the scope of issues affecting the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is clear, Google doesn’t clarify those about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. “Google offers an extended warranty program to provide support coverage for affected Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices for 3 years after the date of original retail purchase,” mentions the official support page.

However, the page states that affected Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners “may be eligible for a replacement at no charge.” The move marks Google’s most significant post-launch support measures for its flagship Pixel phones, including the foldable. By acknowledging a hardware defect and offering repair or replacement at no extra cost, the company is prioritizing long-term customer trust.

If you own one of the three smartphones — the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, or the Pixel 9 Pro Fold — and you’re facing the vertical line, flickering, or other hardware-related issues on the device, you can get it fixed for free. All you’ve to do is visit the support pages linked above, click on “Check repair options,” and enter your IMEI or serial number to start the repair process.

The success and user satisfaction of this repair program could set a new benchmark for Google’s after-sales support, especially for older models.
