Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipsets are now official. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile platforms are built on a 2nm process and feature Oryon CPU cores clocked at up to 5.0GHz.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 feature 64 bit Oryon CPUs paired with new Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs.
Both chipsets feature two Prime cores clocked at up to 5.0GHz and six Performance cores running at up to 4.0GHz. They also come with 16MB of Oryon FlexCache and support up to 24GB of LPDDR5X/6 RAM at speeds of up to 5,300MHz, along with UFS 5.0 storage.
Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 delivers a 13% improvement in CPU performance, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 44% higher GPU performance, and 35% improved NPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
The chipset also offers a 33% improvement in AI performance per watt. Qualcomm’s specifications list 50 percent larger shared memory for the Hexagon NPU on the Extreme model compared to the previous generation.
Meanwhile, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 delivers a 10% improvement in CPU performance, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 35% higher GPU performance, and 14% improved NPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It also offers a 20% improvement in AI performance per watt.
The new Snapdragon chipsets also bring significant improvements to video recording. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow motion at 240fps, while the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 supports 8K at 30fps and 4K slow motion at 120fps.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro lineup, scheduled to launch later today, will be the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. Motorola has also confirmed that the Signature 27 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC. The OnePlus 16 is also confirmed to use the Extreme version.
