I’ve spent thirty years as a professional film and TV editor. My father is a retired film and TV editor. I’ve been in multimillion-dollar post-production facilities, back when they were a thing, and seen some of the best display technology the world has to offer. I’m good at what I do, and part of the reason for that is my annoying hyperfixation on details that other folks might miss. Lighting, sound, and imaging nuances, if there’s an anomaly, I’ll spot it. Conversely, when I see something outstanding, I know it. That’s exactly what happened when TCL invited me to check…
A new quality assessment report from NASA’s Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition (CSDA) program approves the use of data from Satellogic’s NewSat constellation, which includes the Mark IV and Mark V sensor generations, for scientific use. Issued March 9, 2026, the Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition Program Satellogic NewSat Radiometric & Geometric Quality Assessment Report documents the evaluation process of the NASA subject matter experts (SMEs) enlisted to analyze the quality of the constellation’s radiometric and geometric data products. The SMEs analyzed 60 top-of-atmosphere reflectance images collected between 2021 and 2025, focusing on radiometric and geometric performance across multiple sites. Results showed…
Most living rooms carry a TV that’s a generation or two behind, and the gap between what you’re watching and what you could be watching is wider than ever with 4K HDR content now everywhere. That gap is now significantly cheaper to close, with the Roku Select Series 50-inch 4K HDR TV dropped from $299.99 to $209.99, bringing a genuinely capable large-screen upgrade down to a price that is hard to argue with. Roku’s 50‑inch 4K HDR TV has fallen below $210, making that overdue TV refresh far more affordable The Roku Select Series 50-inch is a compelling upgrade for…
Everyone said AI would kill apps. Instead, new app launches are soaring. According to a new analysis from market intelligence provider Appfigures, worldwide app releases in the first quarter of 2026 were up 60% year-over-year across both Apple’s App Store and Google Play. That percentage was an even higher 80% when looking at the iOS App Store alone. In April 2026 so far, the total number of app releases is up 104% across both stores compared to the same time last year, and up 89% on iOS. As Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Greg “Joz” Joswiak, quipped In…
One of the biggest hurdles facing new wind farms is proving how wildlife interacts with turbines in the real world. Developers and regulators need to understand how wildlife interacts with wind turbines, but much of the current process relies on intermittent surveys carried out by human observers using binoculars or searching sites on foot. Those methods can work, but they provide only snapshots in time and can be difficult to verify or compare across projects. That uncertainty can have real consequences. Projects can face delays while additional surveys are carried out, planning decisions can become more conservative, and mitigation requirements can increase…
RoboticsPhysical Intelligence, a Hot Robotics Startup, Says Its New Robot Brain Can Figure Out Tasks It Was Never TaughtConnie Loizos | TechCrunch”Physical Intelligence, the two-year-old, San Francisco-based robotics startup that has quietly become one of the most closely watched AI companies in the Bay Area, published new research Thursday showing that its latest model can direct robots to perform tasks they were never explicitly trained on—a capability the company’s own researchers say caught them off guard.”Artificial IntelligenceWant to Understand the Current State of AI? Every year, millions of people follow Korean content without speaking a word of the language. They stream shows with subtitles, read translated lyrics, and find workarounds. But live theater has always been a different problem — you can’t pause or rewind it. That’s the problem: a Korean startup thinks it’s cracked, and Yuroy Wang was one of the first to try it. The 22-year-old Taipei retail worker is a K-pop fan who loves Korean culture but doesn’t speak the language. When he went to see “The Second Chance Convenience Store,” a touring play based on a Korean novel that was…
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, unveiled last December and already discontinued in multiple markets, is 3.9-4.2mm thin when unfolded and 12mm thick when folded. According to a new rumor, the second-gen TriFold, which might be called Galaxy Z TriFold 2, could be thinner than the original TriFold. Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 5G The slimmer profile of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 would be courtesy of a new hinge mechanism being developed by Samsung. However, the TriFold 2 won’t be the only foldable that will benefit from it, as the source claims that a version of this new hinge with technical…
Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Deploying delivery robots into the real world inevitably comes with a period of trial and error, but things are getting a little ridiculous. A new video compilation by the TikTok content farm @BoopMePlz shows a collection of rarely-seen delivery robot fails. While some of them are old hat, like the clip of a Coco Robotics bot getting obliterated by a passing train, others have gotten less attention, like the footage showing a six-wheeled bot from Starship Technologies rampaging through a marching band performance…
The Realme C81 is coming soon, according to a new report, and it apparently could be a rebranded Realme Note 80. That device launched last month, by the way. The Realme C81 will allegedly be available with 4GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage. It has the model number RMX5388. It will be offered in Storm Black and Glacier Blue, according to the screenshot below which seems to be showing an internal retailer or carrier system somewhere. The theory about this being a rebranded Note 80 comes from the fact that both of them have the same model number. If…
