The most widely cited statistic from a new MIT report has been deeply misunderstood. While headlines trumpet that "95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing," the report actually reveals something far more remarkable: the fastest and most successful enterprise technology adoption in corporate history is happening right under executives' noses. The study, released this week by MIT's Project NANDA, has sparked anxiety across social media and business circles, with many interpreting it as evidence that artificial intelligence is failing to deliver on its promises. But a closer reading of the 26-page report tells a starkly different story — one…
It’s a regular joke in the tech biz these days, but it’s true — often, we forget that our smartphones are supposed to make phone calls. It’s easier to shoot someone an email or a text message, and phones serve a million other purposes, from games and fitness tracking to social media and recording rides. The way Apple’s marketing goes, you’d think most Hollywood movies were shot using iPhones. If you actually do want to use your Android phone for its nominal purpose, there are a number of settings you can change to get the most out of it. Note…
An international team of researchers has released an artificial intelligence system capable of autonomously conducting scientific research across multiple disciplines — generating papers from initial concept to publication-ready manuscript in approximately 30 minutes for about $4 each. The system, called Denario, can formulate research ideas, review existing literature, develop methodologies, write and execute code, create visualizations, and draft complete academic papers. In a demonstration of its versatility, the team used Denario to generate papers spanning astrophysics, biology, chemistry, medicine, neuroscience, and other fields, with one AI-generated paper already accepted for publication at an academic conference."The goal of Denario is not to…
The Starcloud-1 satellite launched this Sunday and has successfully separated from the SpaceX rocket that brought it to orbit. About the size of a small refrigerator, the 60kg satellite features the first Nvidia H100 GPU in space. StarCloud CEO Philip Johnston said Starcloud was founded only 21 months ago and this satellite hosts the first Nvidia H100 in space, which will provide high powered inference and fine tuning capabilities for other satellites. It’s the first in a much larger ambition to build almost all new data centers in space, taking advantage of the abundant energy and cold temperatures in space.…
Enlarge Image The fanciest lizard in the desert. Ben Davis/CNETThere’s something eerie yet serene about driving through Joshua Tree National Park in the desert a few hours east of Los Angeles. It’s vast and quiet, and apart from the occasional work truck or tourist-driven crossover, the stunning roads are typically empty and provide some of the best views in the country. It’s a mix of mountains and valleys, sand and weird greenery, all with a layer of heat shimmer added on top. As I quietly cruise past rows of beautiful cacti with my friends in the car and the windows…
We’re living in a golden age of entertainment, yet somehow, finding what to watch has turned into one of the week’s most annoying tasks. With so many streaming services overflowing with content, having no specific title in mind often means you end up lost in a sea of thumbnails, scrolling until your snacks run out. That “decision fatigue” people talk about is very real, and it’s quietly killing the fun of watching TV. So I decided to call for backup and hand over the tough choices to a neutral party: Reelgood Roulette. It’s a free streaming aggregator that pulls together…

Dell Chromebook 3120: Two-minute reviewThe Dell Chromebook 3120 is a small but tough laptop designed to withstand the rigors of student life. Its compact and rounded design is certainly different. The softer material around its edges help protect it from impacts, making the Chromebook 3120 tougher than many others in this field. Not only is it more rugged than the best Chromebook constructions, it’s also easier to repair, thanks to its…
The buzzed-about but still stealthy New York City startup Augmented Intelligence Inc (AUI), which seeks to go beyond the popular "transformer" architecture used by most of today's LLMs such as ChatGPT and Gemini, has raised $20 million in a bridge SAFE round at a $750 million valuation cap, bringing its total funding to nearly $60 million, VentureBeat can exclusively reveal. The round, completed in under a week, comes amid heightened interest in deterministic conversational AI and precedes a larger raise now in advanced stages.AUI relies on a fusion of the transformer tech and a newer technology called "neuro-symbolic AI," described in…
As global demand for computing continues to explode, the carbon footprint of data centers is a growing concern. A new study outlines how hosting these facilities in space could help slash the sector’s emissions.Data centers require enormous amounts of power and water to operate and cool the millions of chips housed within them. Current estimates from the International Energy Agency peg their electricity consumption at around 415 terawatt hours globally, roughly 1.5 percent of total consumption in 2024. And the Environmental and Energy Study Institute says that large data centers can use as much as five million gallons per day…
