Though both countries picked up their first-ever points at the tournament in their opening match, one may have been less satisfied than the other. After watching fellow co-hosts Mexico get the party started on opening night, Canada took center stage against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto 24 hours later but could only manage a 1-1 draw, courtesy of Cyle Larin’s equalizer 121 seconds after coming on as a second-half substitute. Jesse Marsch’s side did, though, grow into the game and will now aim to collect their first-ever World Cup victory, against Qatar in Vancouver. The Canucks could still be without captain Alphonso Davies as the Bayern Munich wide man continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Qatar would have been delighted with their own first World Cup point, against Switzerland in their opening game, with a combination of Boualem Khoukhi and Swiss defender Miro Muheim heading home deep in stoppage time to snatch a 1-1 draw. It means their second World Cup has already been more successful than their debut four years ago, when they crashed out after two matches in the earliest-ever exit by a host nation. Julen Lopetegui will be delighted his side’s qualification hopes are very much alive, and he’ll hope for more goalkeeping brilliance from Mahmoud Abunada after his six vital saves against the Nati.

A win for either side would surely guarantee a place in the last 32.

So, read on as we show you exactly how to watch Canada vs Qatar for free from anywhere in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
