iPhone Ultra is apparently called iPhone Duo and will be cheaper than expected

In a last-minute rumor published mere hours before Apple’s big event today, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that the long-awaited foldable iPhone will not be called iPhone Ultra, but iPhone Duo. The device was first rumored as the iPhone Fold, then a few months back every rumor started calling it iPhone Ultra, but apparently that won’t be its actual name.

The device is going to be offered with 256GB as base, in white and dark blue. It will have the A20 Pro chip at the helm, a new in-house C2 modem, two 48MP cameras on the back, a 12MP front camera “designed for videoconferencing”, a magnetic hinge, and it will even support the Apple Pencil. The iPhone Duo is expected to go on sale “as early as” October for $2,000, which is $200 less than Gurman’s previous rumor on the matter. If you max out the storage, it will be closer to $3,000, though.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, also debuting today, will look identical to their predecessors, but the orange colorway will be replaced by a “burgundy red” one as rumored for months now. “At least” the Pro Max will get a variable aperture main camera, and both devices will be powered by the A20 Pro chip.

They will also have longer battery life than their predecessors and revamped vapor chambers to prevent overheating. The Dynamic Island will be smaller and will let you toggle between three live tasks at once (up from two previously). Both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be $100 more expensive than their predecessors.

Gurman’s report also has some news about the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. As rumored before, there will be a ceramic option for the former, as well as “fresh color options” for all of them. The Ultra 4 will get better battery life.

All of the watches will be paired with a revamped Health app for iOS, as well as a new Readiness app that is “a variant” of the Vitals app. This will “include some features familiar from Oura and Whoop devices”, Gurman says. The new watches will also come with “a privacy-focused enhancement for analyzing your day and providing a summary of what took place, including conversations”, but this will not record or store audio or show you any transcripts.

Apple’s new AirPods with cameras will allegedly not be part of today’s lineup, as they’ve been delayed until next year. The AirPods 5, however, will make their debut today, and will feature “dramatically improved” noise cancellation.
