You know how sometimes a streaming service will renew a show for a second season even before the first one has aired? Apple owns a streaming service, so it definitely knows how that goes.
And according to a new rumor from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the company is doing just that with its foldable smartphone line. According to the prolific leaker, Apple has already ‘confirmed’ the iPhone Ultra 2, though it’s unclear what exactly this confirmation entails.

We assume it means that work has started on the successor to the iPhone Ultra, which is expected to be unveiled in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The iPhone Ultra 2 will keep the same wide folding screen as its predecessor, in fact it could be the exact same panel used in the first-gen model.
This tells us that Apple has a lot of confidence in the iPhone Ultra. On the other hand, the same can’t be said for the Air line. Work on the iPhone Air 3 hasn’t started yet, and whether there will be an iPhone Air 3 depends entirely on how well the iPhone Air 2 sells. If it doesn’t sell well, Apple might decide to cancel the iPhone Air family altogether.
The Air 2 is expected to arrive next spring with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
