“Time flies,” “time waits for no one,” “as time goes on”: The way we speak about time tends to strongly imply that the passage of time is some sort of real process that happens out there in the world. We inhabit the present moment and move through time, even as events come and go, fading into the past. But go ahead and try to actually verbalize just what is meant by the flow or passage of time. A flow of what? Rivers flow because water is in motion. What does it mean to say that time flows?Events are more like happenings…
I still remember when a big phone meant a five-inch slab that barely fitted in my skinny jeans. Yes, the 2010s were a wild time. Now, in early 2026, I’ve spent the past few weeks following the real-world launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold and wondering if this is the turning point where foldables finally grow up, or if it could be the moment we collectively agree that foldables are trying to do too much. It’s too early to say for sure. The Galaxy Z TriFold is here – sort of What started as a wild concept is now an…
I’m always wondering about how to get the best value when I buy tech, especially when it comes to the kids. They don’t need the latest and shiniest iPhone or Samsung when it launches each year, but they do need devices that are still receiving security updates and maybe an outside chance of feature updates. Well, on iOS, anyway (yes, Android, we’re talking about you). It turns out that there is some serious value in some smartphones that are more than five years old at this point, some of which retain a surprisingly high resale price. That hasn’t put me…
Robert Triggs / Android AuthorityModern smartphone cameras are impressive beasts, as many camera phones combine cutting-edge hardware with advanced image processing capabilities. Some of the more notable innovations in recent years include periscope cameras, 200MP sensors, and all-pixel autofocus. However, one of my favorite hardware features arrived in 2022: one-inch camera sensors. Unfortunately, adoption of this tech has seemingly stalled in the last year or so, and it doesn’t look like we’ll see much of it in 2026. What went wrong? Do you prefer larger camera sensors or more megapixels?165 votesA larger sensor, please93%More megapixels for me7%One-inch cameras were the future…
If Elon Musk’s antics over the past few years have felt like a three-ring circus, there just might be a reason for that. As it turns out, one of the billionaire’s key legal strategists isn’t just an attorney but a professionally trained — and currently practicing — clown. We wish we were kidding. But new reporting by Business Insider tells the tale of Jaymie Parkkinen, an intellectual property lawyer representing Musk by day while working as an actual clown by night. Amidst a massive courtroom drama playing out between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Parkkinen has stood out, occasionally…
Researchers studying AI chatbots have found that ChatGPT can show anxiety-like behavior when it is exposed to violent or traumatic user prompts. The finding does not mean the chatbot experiences emotions the way humans do. However, it does reveal that the system’s responses become more unstable and biased when it processes distressing content. When researchers fed ChatGPT prompts describing disturbing content, like detailed accounts of accidents and natural disasters, the model’s responses showed higher uncertainty and inconsistency. These changes were measured using psychological assessment frameworks adapted for AI, where the chatbot’s output mirrored patterns associated with anxiety in humans (via…
If it isn’t number one, dropped internet access has to be near the top of the list of tech problems people deal with on a frequent basis. What’s maddening is that it can often be difficult to diagnose the source of your trouble. If your internet service provider (ISP) isn’t reporting an outage, you may be left rooting through software and hardware settings until something clicks, either literally or figuratively. Sometimes the fault will certainly lie with your Wi-Fi router, given that it’s how most of your home devices bridge with the internet. But there are other factors worth considering,…
Celebrate the New Year with the “Champagne Cluster,” a galaxy cluster seen in this new image from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and optical telescopes. Astronomers discovered this galaxy cluster Dec. 31, 2020. The date, combined with the bubble-like appearance of the galaxies and the superheated gas seen with Chandra observations (represented in purple), inspired the scientists to nickname the galaxy cluster the Champagne Cluster, a much easier-to-remember name than its official designation of RM J130558.9+263048.4. The new composite image shows that the Champagne Cluster is actually two galaxy clusters in the process of merging to form an even larger cluster.…
This year has been an eventful one for cameraphones, carrying over the trend. Some manufacturers made huge strides when it comes to cameras, while others decided to focus on polishing their products. But at the end of the day, pretty much all manufacturers have something to show for when it comes to cameras. Arguably, vivo ended up leading the pack. The company released the China-only vivo X200 Ultra in early 2025, while the X300 and X300 Pro arrived a couple of months before the end of the year, but made it to global stage. The vivo X300 Pro, didn’t bring…
For years now, video games have been the biggest industry in entertainment, well beyond TV and movies. And why not? They’re fun, they’re addictive, and they can even make you more productive. But it’s only recently that Hollywood has really caught up and started looking to gaming as source material for movies and TV shows. Thus, we’ve gotten shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, and there are a lot more adaptations in the making. But somehow, Hollywood has missed some really obvious franchises that are screaming out to be turned into TV series. Grand Theft Auto Obviously Grand…
