Google has lost its final appeal to the European Commission’s €4.1 billion fine from 2018. The appeal was Google’s last chance and was presented at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), Europe’s highest court. The record-breaking fine sat at €4.34 (later reduced to €4.1) was imposed on Google by the European Union’s executive arm, the European Commission, back in 2018. The EC found that Google was abusing Android’s mobile dominance and giving its own apps an unfair advantage by requiring phone makers to pre-install Google Search, Chrome, and the Play Store. The EU sees it as Google’s practices making it…
Traditionally, an audit independently examines records, processes and controls to verify compliance and assess financial and operational integrity. In the modern world, such an approach should extend to the software development lifecycle (SDLC) – especially in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) or large language model (LLM)-assisted code. Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and their teams need proof that developers are producing protected products, because one in five organizations has experienced a serious security incident directly tied to AI-generated code. Getting to the root of the problems requires visibility into who is leveraging AI, what tools they are using and…
For five years, Alzheimer’s slowly stripped away a Japanese-American woman’s ability to speak more than one syllable at a time. The woman, now in her 80s, was diagnosed roughly a decade ago, and her condition steadily worsened. She struggled to walk and recognize family members. Then, under medical supervision, she took a large dose of mushrooms containing the psychedelic psilocybin. Within three days, her symptoms had improved. She began spontaneously recounting memories and initiating conversations in full sentences. Her alertness returned, and she could move around independently.A week later, she was recognizing family members, asking where they were, and pointing out…
Back in May, AT&T launched Build-A-Plan, a new way to customize your wireless plan’s perks and pricing. It seems to have been a success, as the company is now expanding the program to include home internet as well. The expansion is taking place on July 7. Starting on that day, if you use Build-A-Plan you will be able to add home internet to your plan as well – either AT&T Fiber if it’s available in your area, or, if it’s not, AT&T Internet Air, which basically gives you fixed internet access by using AT&T’s mobile network. If you use Build-A-Plan…
I don’t know about you, but I get a ton of notifications on my Android phone, and they’re not always important. I’m constantly swiping them away, fast, to get to the ones that matter. Occasionally, I’ll swipe away something that I didn’t actually mean to. That’s when I wish I had turned on Android’s built-in Notification History. Why it’s off by default is a technical tradeoff, but luckily, you can enable the feature now and never have to regret dismissing an important notification again. Fix it now, and you never have to have that terrible feeling again. Related 8 Android…
Dhruv Bhutani / Android AuthorityPlex’s big Lifetime Pass price hike has now kicked in, meaning the one-time payment for premium Plex features has jumped from $249.99 to $749.99. Existing lifetime subscribers get to stay smugly grandfathered in at their old rate, while monthly and annual Plex Pass pricing remains unchanged. Given the eye-watering uplift in the price of the Lifetime Pass, we wanted to know whether readers saw it as a smart long-term buy or a shameless cash grab. That rise was always going to be a hard sell, although Plex hasn’t exactly been sitting still since announcing it. The service…
Threat actors began exploiting the latest CitrixBleed-like vulnerability in NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateways less than 24 hours after public disclosure, Scottish cybersecurity firm Lupovis reports. Tracked as CVE-2026-8451 (CVSS score of 8.8), the security defect was disclosed on June 30, when Citrix rolled out patches, and attack surface management company watchTowr published technical details on it. The bug is described as an out-of-bounds read issue affecting NetScaler appliances configured as SAML IDP and leading to memory disclosure. It was discovered in NetScaler’s XML parser, which did not terminate unquoted XML attribute values if they were followed by a newline…
Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Beloved actor Gene Wilder, perhaps best known for his portrayal of the titular Willy Wonka in the 1971 musical fantasy film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” died in 2016 at the age of 83 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Now, almost exactly a decade later, Netflix is trying to resurrect his voice using AI — without securing his consent, since the tech to do so didn’t even exist back when he was still alive. The entertainment giant unveiled a trailer for a…

TV Time, a popular app for tracking the shows you’re watching and engaging in community discussions, is shutting down. The company announced via in-app messages that TV Time’s app will be discontinued, no longer offering service after July 15, 2026. The company blamed the expense of running the platform as a reason behind the decision, but a shift to a more AI-focused business seems to be the real culprit. “While we loved supporting TV Time, it was no longer sustainable to continue operating the service as a free app, and there was not enough demand for a paid app,” the…
