Technicians at NASA’s Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility (PHSF) at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida offloaded eight high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) wall modules and other ground support equipment on April 27. The equipment will support launch processing of the agency’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Each 1,800-pound module enhances the PHSF’s clean room systems, helping meet the telescope’s stringent cleanliness requirements during its time in the facility, where the observatory will undergo key tasks such as spacecraft fueling prior to liftoff. Roman will observe the universe in infrared light using its Wide Field Instrument and a Coronagraph Instrument technology demonstration. Its…
I won’t lie, I got addicted to Instagram. And for a long time, I didn’t even realize how much it was messing with my head. It sounds dramatic when you say it out loud, but it really crept up on me. I got so used to watching Instagram reels all the time that my brain just stopped having patience for anything longer. A full YouTube video felt like a commitment, and reading something without checking my phone in between felt impossible. And the worst part was, I knew exactly why it was happening. I tried fixing it the usual ways…

The competition between the best music streaming services has become increasingly tough over the years, and new entrants to the sector have their work cut out when it comes to competing with the big players. One such startup is Vocana, the independent-only streaming platform that’s challenging Spotify’s payment system at a time when music fans are criticizing music platforms for the unfairness of the pro-rata system.Vocana’s journey began in 2021 when Dale Chorba and Dave Petruziello joined forces to build a platform designed to “fix what’s broken in streaming”. Its President is Neil Sheehan, who joined the team shortly after it…
As robots move into the real world, they’ll need to become more adaptable. But right now, it’s hard to transfer skills from one machine to another. A new system makes this possible. One of the most popular ways to teach robots is to have a human show them what to do—either by physically guiding the robot’s joints, using remote control, or even drawing the desired motion. But those skills are indelibly tied to each specific robot. If a company upgrades to a new robot with a different design, the skill breaks, and the robot has to be trained from scratch.Researchers at the…
The Apple iPhone Air wasn’t the first super-slim phone, but it was the phone that started the craze, anyway – Apple has that effect on the market. Right now, the phone is up to €480 off. That gets you a 6.5” LTPO display (120Hz) and the powerful Apple A19 Pro chipset. The 3,149mAh battery is oh-so-small, but it still achieved a decent 12:44h Active Use Score – and there’s a variety of MagSafe products out there that can help to extend the runtime. There’s no fixing the single 48MP (1/1.56”) camera situation, though. The Apple iPhone 17 is…
Websites are not what they used to be. There’s a lot more scripting now, and with full-on web apps running directly inside the browser, the web is a very different place from what it was 20 years ago. Duh. But all of this comes at a cost: speed. Web pages are heavier, and our network speeds, browsers, and servers all have to work harder to make browsing feel as instant as it was always supposed to feel. There’s a lot of work going into that, though I admit most of it seems to be in the “make loading faster” camp…
Dhruv Bhutani / Android AuthorityAs an old-school techie whose formative years were spent tinkering with tape decks and portable CD players, I find that modern Android phones are nothing short of miracles of engineering for audio consumption. They’ve got a screen that rivals my high-end television, a DAC chip that is by all measures transparent, near-lossless wireless streaming, more storage than you can shake a stick at, and enough processing power to run a small datacenter.Yet, when I want to sit down and actually listen to an album, the phone is often the most frustrating tool in my pocket. Between…
Over 1,800 developers were affected by the Mini Shai-Hulud supply chain attack that hit the PyPi, NPM, and PHP ecosystems over the past two days. Attributed to the TeamPCP hacking group, the campaign was first spotted on April 29, after malicious versions of four SAP NPM packages were caught delivering information-stealing malware and attempting to propagate to other packages. The malware would collect credentials, keys, tokens, and other secrets from the infected machines and publish the data to GitHub repositories containing the hardcoded description “A Mini Shai-Hulud has Appeared”. The same description has been used in a fresh round of…
Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech While workers in the western world agonize over what seems to be an impending job apocalypse, their Chinese counterparts are winning in pitched legal battles against AI automation. Last week, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, a Chinese court ruled that companies can’t use AI as an excuse to fire workers. The case involved a quality assurance supervisor, identified only by his surname Zhou, who was hired in 2022 to oversee a tech company’s AI output. When his bosses tried to replace…
